Disruptive Technologies: Are Platform Business Models Eating the World?
In only a few years, platforms like Airbnb, Uber, or Facebook have disrupted entire industries. While it’s taken decades for hotel groups such as Hilton and Accor to build and manage global brands, it’s taken only a few years for Airbnb to become the world’s largest accommodation provider. Yet Airbnb owns no real estate. Similarly, Uber, the world’s largest taxi company, owns no vehicles. And Facebook, the world’s most popular media company, creates no content.
But what are platforms? And how do they operate? And are they really taking over the world?
During this event, platform expert and author Benoit Reillier will moderate a panel of platform veterans from professional social networks such as Linkedin, travel platform Kayak/Priceline and service marketplace startup Fantastic Services.
Join the Columbia University Club London in this event where participants will learn what it takes to design, ignite and scale platform businesses successfully, and how traditional forms may respond to the disruptions. The session will provide ample time for questions from the audience, as well as an opportunity to network with like-minded alumni.
Veterans platform experts confirmed for the panel include:
Jan Valentin, Head of Europe for Kayak / Priceline
Rune Sovndahl, CEO of Fantastic Services
Laurence Bret-Stern, Senior Marketing Director (EMEA/LATAM) at LinkedIn
